The Village of YORKVILLE began as a residential suburb in 1830 till annexed by the city in the twentieth century. Its classic Victorian homes became gathering places in the sixties for the bohemian hippie protest movement and cultural birthplace of musicians like Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell and fledgling authors like Margaret Attwood.

The advent of the Bloor subway brought investment and renewal development to the community encompassed by Davenport Street on the north, Avenue Road on the west and Yonge Street to Bloor, the busiest intersection of two subway routes, and what is now a jetsetter's paradise with stores like The Bay and Holt Rentfrew on Bloor West, and exclusive boutiques and eateries on Cumberland Street and YORKVILLE Avenue.
