Inagurated as a township in 1922, a Borough in Centennial year 1967 then it became “The City with Heart" on receiving its charter as The City of NORTH YORK on St.Valentines Day 1979. With the intersection of the Yonge and Sheppard subway routes former Mayor Mel Lastman spearheaded the development of the city centre on Yonge street between Sheppard and Finch to create The North York Centre.

With an imposing new City Hall, many new condominium towers followed, plus shopping malls and a superb theatre complex in The Toronto Centre for the Arts, that are at the heart of this cultural and business growth.

York University, Sunnybrook Hospital, Yorkdale Shopping Mall are just a sampling of the many amenities available to residents of the City of NORTH YORK. The Yonge subway connects this area with downtown Toronto with access to all the east-west routes that intersect with it including Highway 401. Location,! Location!
